Shining World Review
Readers who thought that Noah Gantz and his friends aboard the living starship Kayan would get a break in Shining World by J. N. Chaney and Scott Moon will be happily surprised to learn that there’s no vacation for a beloved cast of eclectic characters in this follow-up to Hero’s Return.
Just when Noah believed he had earned a break from saving the galaxy, he’s asked for a favor to save a diverse group of kidnapped aliens on the Gleam home world. This favor and the resulting investigation unravels a broad and deep conspiracy that has ensnared the Gavant Reach, and what’s worse is that the instigators are somehow once again related to the Seers, an ancient and powerful race working in the shadows.
Like other stories in the series, this tenth book has the same thrilling action-packed scenes that will keep readers engaged and wanting more. Fighting alongside Noah is his new apprentice, Ryn, from the previous story, and her presence adds a level of chaos and fun to the story that differs from the other crew members.
As Noah investigates the abductions and kidnappings on the Gleam home world, he learns more about one of his best friends and crew of Kayan, Leana, a troublemaking Gleam. What Noah learns reveals that perhaps not all that is glittering is beautiful.
Beneath the crystal and shine that is the Gleam home world are some unsavory truths that the Gleams must now face, and it’s this underbelly of society where Noah discovers the cult who not only kidnapped the alien officials but also whose motives are unclear.
However unclear the motives, this cult’s actions do not bode well for the galaxy. They have access to resources, including Seer technology, that gives them the ability to do some serious harm not only to a planet, but also the larger galaxy. And this cult is headed toward other home worlds in the Gavant Reach.
Shining World by J. N. Chaney and Scott Moon is another exciting and fun continuation of the Homeworld Lost series that readers are sure to enjoy.
